JOHNSON

The Family of Lars B. JOHNSTON (Jenson)

Lars Peter Johnson, father of George Johnson, was an illegitimate son of the King of Denmark. According to the story, Dorothy Yorkson, who worked as a maid in the royal palace in Copenhagen, became pregnant by Frederik, the young prince of Denmark. After the birth of her son, she and her family were sent to Canada to relieve the royal family of a very embarrassing situation. It is an established fact that Dorothy's child, Lars Peter, was three months old at the time of the Yorkson family move to the New World in 1862. The following is quoted from Elnora Wilson:

Family Information to Prove that Lars Peter Johnson was a child of Dorothy Yorkson and King Frederik VII of Denmark

Peter's daughters were always embarrassed because their father was illegitimate, so didn't talk about it publically, but the sons did. Uncle George Johnson spoke of it freely to male members of the family.

Hazel Johnson Kruger told in later years these stories: When Dorothy's husband, Lars B. Johnston, died, his other children told Peter he shouldn't inherit any of the estate because he wasn't really a Johnson. She remembers Peter and Emma being very angry about it.

Sylvia, daughter of George Johnson, was told the whole story by her Grandpa Peter Johnson as a young woman. He told her so she would lead a moral life, and not have troubles like his mother did.

Christine Kruger Schultz, daughter of Hazel, heard from her mother that Dorothy Johnson received money from the "Royal House" in Denmark until Lars Peter was 18 years old.

Information Hazel Kruger remembered about her grandparents: Dorothy Yorkson came to the United States when Lars Peter was three months old. She lived a few years after her husband died in 1900. Then she went to live with her youngest son, Fred Johnson in the Waupaca area. Fred was a cripple. One daughter, Emma, married a DeBrux and lived in the Phlox area. Dorothy had a painful illness and died unable to breathe. Elnora Wilson 1991.
