He owned land and forests and lumber mills and was said to be the richest of the purchasers of Nantucket. He lived only a short time at Nantucket, most of his life was spent at Dover and Exeter, New Hampshire. He was a representative to the General Justice of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire. They had: Abigail, Peter, Jethro, Robert, Edward, Judith, Parnell, Elizabeth, and Eliphalet.

Edmund and Sarah, 2 Feb 1704, Newberry, Mass.; successful hatter; besides being a merchant tailor of wide reputation, he filled many positions of trust and honor in Newbury and was very active in the First Church. Tradition says that he built the Tristram Coffin House, now standing in Newbury, at the time of his marriage for him and his bride. If tradition is correct, it refers to the southwesterly portion of that house. They had: Judith, Deborah, Mary, James, John, Lydia, Enoch, Stephen, Peter and Nathaniel. [Children]
